I am a German photojournalist based in Berlin. My projects are rooted in my longstanding interest in social justice and vulnerable communities. In the past I have worked on stories revolving around the effects of criminal justice on families (in the US), and since 2015 I have been documenting refugees along the migrant trail, and after their arrival in Germany.
I have a Masters Degree in Comparative Literature, English, and Film History from the University of Mainz. After a career in academia and publishing I turned to documentary photography, and in 2014 I graduated from the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism program at ICP, where I received the Lisette Model Scholarship, and the Rita K. Hillman Award for Excellence.
In 2016 I was listed by PDN as one of 30 new and emerging photographers to watch, and I was shortlisted for the CDS Photo Essay prize (2016). Before that I was shortlisted for the Lucie Foundation Scholarship (2015), and was the Grand Prize Winner in the Rangefinder Portraiture Competition (2014).
I have contributed to outlets such as GEO, The New York Times, The Village Voice, Al Jazeera, Mother Jones, VICE, @everydayincarceration, and the advocacy campaigns of The International Rescue Committee, HIAS, and Wir Machen Das.
